We have many years of experience working with Maserati cars, and every once in a while, you run into a problem for the very first time. One of our customers reported that he was unable to reset the time and date on his GranTurismo dashboard despite following all of the instructions and a few helpful tips on the internet. He then asked us to investigate this for him. Upon inspection, we found he was quite correct; no matter what we attempted to do, it would just not accept any inputs.
Upon further research of the symptoms, we came across what is now commonly known in Maserati circles as a ‘bricked dash’. This occurs when resetting the service light with the date set incorrectly to a date before the last service would give a similar problem and was reported as requiring a new instrument cluster from Maserati at a substantial cost running into the thousands!
Armed with this information, we then connected our diagnostic machine and interrogated the dashboard ECU to check the service dates recorded. To our surprise, we found that although presenting very similar symptoms to those described, this vehicle’s service dates were all inline, except the most recent date had jumped forwards to 31/12/2099, a date that was physically impossible to enter as the calendar in the Maserati GranTurismo only allows an entry of 2097 at the maximum.
Not happy with having to inform our customer that he was in need of an extremely expensive repair, we decided to investigate the problem in more depth and found that we were able to repair his dashboard at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
